Service Description
Learn the 108-move Yang Style Tai Chi form as passed down through the teachings of Moy Lin Shin. This 4-month series offers a gradual, supportive approach to learning the complete sequence while developing balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, focus, and relaxation. Tai Chi is a fully standing practice often described as meditation in motion. While students learn the individual movements and structure of the form, equal attention is given to cultivating the sense of flow and quiet presence that permeates the practice. Learning is incremental. Each 90-minute class includes a review of previously learned movements followed by the introduction of new material, allowing students to build the form one step at a time. Questions are encouraged, and individualized support is an important part of the learning process. Through verbal instruction, demonstration, and occasional hands-on guidance, George helps students better understand the details of each movement, transition, and posture. Students are encouraged to set aside a few minutes throughout the week for home practice, helping the form become more familiar and integrated over time. While the introductory workshops provide a helpful foundation, they are not required for participation. Classes meet Sundays at noon and take place both in the studio and at Kindleberger Park in Parchment as weather allows. This series is offered on a sliding scale in keeping with our commitment to accessibility. Instructor Bio George de Alth has practiced Tai Chi for more than twenty years and is certified by the Taoist Tai Chi Society to teach both beginning and continuing-level classes. He continues to deepen his understanding of Tai Chi and Qigong through ongoing study and workshops, bringing both experience and patience to his teaching. His approach emphasizes careful instruction, individual support, and creating an environment where students can learn the form at a sustainable pace.
